The 4 song ep "Stranger Than Fiction" by The Evoka project is as startling good as disc of energized modern pop music as can be found anywhere - and that is not a hyperbole. The disc was released on Hero/AudioLab Records, a local label started and run by the bands drummer, Bryan ledbetter. The star of the show is "Taylor" who in regular life comes across shy but once on stage turns into a madman who challenges the antics of Iggy pop. Taylor also wrtes the songs, all of which are exceptionally good, a fact made all the more amazing by the revelation that these are his first batch of songs. Look for the bands new album in the coming year - major labels are already showing interest. in the meantime, catch the band live and buy the ep. it's indespensable. - Ed Bumgardner
